Grab here, your golden chance, to get away from the rat race and enjoy a date with Delhi’s magnificent monuments, bask in the glorious past and hone your bargaining skills in the Indian capital! Trust me, I am a Delhi girl, and I assure you, this city greets all visitors with a warm welcome; provided you make that tiny effort of coming along. Able or disabled, Delhi rocks!

Put on a comfortable pair of shoes, swing a sling bag across your shoulder, and grip that white cane in your hand, you’re all set for an excursion around Delhi! And now, hand-in-hand, we walk to the iconic Qutab Minar, a tall five-storey minaret. Here, you get to go around the building and feel the tapering stone structure with your hands, as you listen to its history being told to you by our expert guide! It is a pity that one can’t climb up the inner winding staircase anymore, due to security reasons, for the experience of trudging up those narrow treacherous steps and stepping into fresh air in the extremely narrow balcony was simply thrilling! However, there is still the unfinished rough replica of the Qutab Minar for you to see, and the great iron pillar where you can make a wish, if you manage to hug it, backwards!

We move on to our next destination, which is Himayun Tomb! Here, we are greeted by the fragrance of fresh flowers, rustling leaves and cackles of birds; as you begin climbing the majestic stairs to the grand stone edifice, you feel like royalty yourself!  It is peaceful and cool inside and there is a distinct smell of pigeons here; some of them may make you jump as they flutter past your head. You can feel your way around the beautiful carvings on the walls, and try to focus on the verbal description of the visuals shared by our expert guides!

Time to get to the Old Fort or the Purana Qila! This is an ancient fort, with a lot of vegetation around the old stone structure. As you walk around here, you will notice that the atmosphere is completely different from the two historic places you have already visited! You have to experience it by yourself to know what I mean! Here, you have to paddle or take a row boat across a tiny lake, nearly shadowed by the huge trees; it’s a really romantic experience as you glide on glassy waters, singing your favorite love song! “Once more”…is all that you are going to mourn!

Again, even this must come to an end; for it is now time to get to the one-and-only proud and lofty India Gate! As you know, here the ‘Amar Jwan Jyoti’ is kept burning to salute and honor all those braveheart soldiers who laid down their lives for our Mother Land! Although it is not possible to touch this majestic monument, the feel of the place is overpoweringly mesmerising! India Gate is surrounded by sprawling lush green lawns on all sides and you can actually exercise your freedom to laze on the soft clean grass. One of these lawns is the Children’s Park, with swings, an aquarium and even a spot of boating to enjoy. Mind you, don’t miss out on the chance of getting your favorite ice-cream here!

Yes, yes, we will now go and get our bargaining skills tested! We head straight to the famous shopping area of Delhi, that is: Connaught Place and Janpath! There are things for everyone here: clothes, artifacts, jewellery, eatables, toys, books and the famous Depaul’s coffee to choose from! You can get henna applied on your hands and feet or simply window-shop to find out what’s trending.

So, there you are; your enchanting date with Delhi will leave you happily tired but longing for more! Honestly, I never let go of an opportunity to explore Delhi; even though I have visited all these places time and again! An excursion around this amazing city uncovers something new every time! There is the old and the new, the narrow and overcrowded areas, and the most modern of structures and the widest of highways with their swirling fly-over’s to drive through…and how can I forget the amazing traffic jams one can stuck in, giving you the chance to listen to your favourite radio station without guilt!

Hope to take you around my lovely and enchanting city!

Take the plunge, step out of your house and begin with one-day excursions!
