World Disability Day Celebrated With A Filmi Twist
Celebrating World Disability Day couldn’t get any better! At the Hard Rock Cafe, the Enable Experiences community shared their favourite filmi moments through either dialogues, songs and scenes that held a special place for them.
It all began at the red carpet, starting at the step and strike-a-pose background, with the cameras and lighting making them feel like the star of the day! The hosts for the evening, Shama Noorani and Huafrid Billimoria asked the attendees how they felt when they first travelled or about their most cherished memory, and as always, the touching travel stories lit up everyone’s faces with a smile.
The dim lighting, decorated hallways, and soft music at Hard Rock set the vibe for the event. A video summarising Enable Travel’s achievements in the past year and the many barriers that were broken were played and received well by the audience.
As the crowd interacted with each other, and as the starters rolled in, Sangeetha Robinson, PVR’s proud head of Sustainability and Inclusivity, spoke about their breakthrough technology that described ongoing movie scenes in detail for vision-impaired viewers so they can truly experience Indian Cinema.
She also spoke about how PVR is now wheelchair-accessible and is also equipped with assistive equipment and technology for the deaf. It was followed by a quick demo of the tech and time for the attendees to ask Sangeetha the questions they had in mind. PVR also sponsored 50 tickets for the disabled community, as part of their promise to make cinema more inclusive.
Shama and Rustom Irani, our travel enthusiast, took the event ahead and asked the crowd about who their favourite actor was, or how they related to a particular scene in the movie. The enthusiasm in the crowd was overwhelming. While some spoke about how the disabled community was represented in the movies, others showed their fun moves to their favourite song! An audio of Anuskha Sharma was played, where she talks about World Disability Day and how Enable Travel celebrates the disabled’s spirit to travel.
Rahul Ramagude, a Para-Swimming Champion and a proud member of the Wheelchair Cricket Association, Maharashtra, spoke about his travel journey to Lonavala along with Enable Travel. His travel video, which played in the background, documented the fun things to do in Lonavala, which include a horse ride and the rocky descent to a lake among others; all in all, it truly described the spirit of #CanDo!
The staff of Hard Rock Cafe also gave us a beautiful surprise by performing ‘YMCA’ on stage, followed by other peppy numbers. It didn’t take long for the whole crowd to join in, moving to the groovy music and rhythm; it was almost a dance party!
At the end, the winner of the Filmi Connect evening was announced and was presented with a big hamper. This special hamper included five tickets to the movie ‘Zero’, and a five-meal voucher pass for Hard Rock Café, among other gifts. The event ended with wide smiles and beautiful memories, which celebrate the #CanDo spirit of Enable Travel.
Enable Travel continues to work towards making the world accessible and encourages the society to be more inclusive.
